When I think of Santorini, white washed villages, dramatic views and breathtaking sunsets come to mind. But did you know Santorini also has its own vineyards? Because of its climate and the mineral content of its volcanic soil, the wine produced in the region is unique. After exploring Oia, we decided to check out a nearby vineyard for some wine tasting.
Read below for my experience wine tasting at Domaine Sigalas!
– About –
Domaine Sigalas is a vineyard and tasting room located near Oia on Santorini island and has received both national and international acclaim.
While small in size, the tasting room is beautifully rustic and has stunning views overlooking the vineyard.
Located near Oia, it can be reached on foot (about a 20 minute walk) or by taxi (about a 5 minute drive). It’s recommended to call ahead to book a vineyard tour but drop-ins are welcome for the tasting room.
– Wine + Food –
Visitors to Domaine Sigalas have the option to do a ‘Vineyard, Wine, Gastronomy Tour’ which includes a guided tour of the vineyard, 10 wine tastings and food pairings. Or you can drop by the tasting room to enjoy wine by the glass, bottle or flight. Flight options are available with 6-12 wine tastings and range from €18 to €25 in price.
We opted for the 10 wine flight tasting to share and it did not disappoint! There were a mix of both red and white wines – perfect for a hot summer day.
Sipping on wine and looking over the vineyard made for a perfect afternoon on Santorini.. and was made even better by delicious appetizers.
The food menu includes plenty of shareable plates for groups (like meat and cheese plates) and all of the ingredients are local and fresh. I highly recommend ordering the tomato and white eggplant tower!
