Packing for Tulum can be overwhelming because there are so many activities to consider! But it doesn’t have to be — after visiting Tulum and traveling the Yucatan peninsula, I’ve nailed down the ultimate packing list for Tulum.
From relaxing on the beach to climbing ancient ruins to swimming in cenotes, you are guaranteed to have fun in this little slice of paradise. But with hot and humid weather and lots of activities to plan for, packing for Tulum requires some advance planning.
Here’s the ultimate packing guide for Tulum, Mexico!
Tulum Packing Guide: Dresses
One of the most essential items in the packing guide for Tulum is dresses! Look for dresses that are lightweight, breathable and comfortable. Tulum can get humid and you’ll want to be comfortable walking around town, biking to the beach or dining at any of the outdoor restaurants. Colorful dresses and fun prints encouraged!

Tulum Packing Guide: Tops + Bottoms
Packing some comfortable pants and a few pairs of shorts is always a good idea! You’ll want to wear shorts or pants if you plan on climbing the Coba ruins, walking around Tulum’s Mayan ruins or even just biking to town.

Tulum Packing Guide: Swimsuits + Cover Ups
No packing list for Tulum would be complete with out swimsuits! One of the highlights of Tulum is the gorgeous beaches and cenotes so you’ll definitely want to bring a few swimsuits to rotate. I’d also suggest packing a one piece for full coverage in case you find a good diving spot into a cenote.
Tulum Packing Guide: Bags
Crossbody bags are great for evenings in Tulum so you don’t have to worry about carrying around a clunky bag — at night you really only need a cell phone, cash, room key, lipstick and bug spray! During the day, I like to pack a proper beach bag with all my beach essentials: towel, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, etc. And, I always pack some travel sized medicine packages — just in case!
Tulum Packing Guide: Accessories
Being in the sun during the day, it’s important to bring a hat and sunglasses to protect your face from the sun. While I’m at the beach, I usually just wear minimal jewelry but during the evening, I’ll usually add some fun statement earrings to dress up a bit!
And, I always bring my own towel to Tulum because there are so many day trip excursions that you’ll end up using your towel for!
Tulum Packing Guide: Shoes
Comfort is key when it comes to shoes because there is so much to see in Tulum — whether you are walking along the sandy beach, exploring the little jungle roads, climbing ruins, or hopping on a boat, you’ll want to wear flat shoes that are comfortable. In packing for Tulum, I always bring a pair of water shoes — they’re great for cenote excursions!
Tulum Packing Guide: Tech
Tulum is such a gorgeous place that I always end up taking so many photos — I love having my mirrorless camera, drone and GoPro with me so I can capture whatever adventure I’m on. And for when I’m relaxing on the beach, I like to either read a book on my Kindle or listen to some tunes.
