Mykonos is one of the most popular Greek islands and is known for its white-washed houses, stunning beaches, luxurious hotels, and nightlife attracting international jet-setters to budget backpackers — there is definitely something for everyone on Mykonos.
Here’s the ultimate guide to Mykonos, Greece!
HOW TO GET THERE
Whether you’re traveling within Greece or coming from another country, Mykonos is one of the easiest Greek islands to get to.
- Mykonos International Airport: That’s right, Mykonos has it’s own international airport! Although small, the airport services daily flights from Athens as well as many direct flights to and from cities all over Europe.
- By ferry: There are tons of different ferry routes throughout the Greek islands and Athens run by several ferry operators (Blue Star, SeaJets, etc.). The ferry times and availability vary based on route and season — running less frequently in the off-season so be sure to check the ferry timetables while planning your trip to Mykonos!
WHERE TO STAY
Mykonos has a diverse mix of places to stay — from 5-star hotels to budget hostels, there’s an option for every traveler!
- Myconian Villa Collection: This beautiful property is located on Elia beach with incredible sea views and a stunning infinity pool where you can take it all in! The hotel has room and villa options available as well as convenient shuttles into town. (Luxury Hotel)
- Cavo Tagoo: You may have seen this hotel on Instagram because it’s seriously photogenic! Most of the rooms have private pools, sweeping sea views and other luxury amenities. It’s main pool area and restaurant often has live music and other events — so it’s definitely a young, fun vibe! (Luxury Hotel)
- San Giorgio Mykonos: I absolutely loved staying here on my last trip to Mykonos! With typical Myconian architecture and a bohemian vibe, this hotel is a relaxing oasis between two of the most popular beaches on the island: Paradise and Paranga. And, San Giorgio has a range of room options so is perfect for mid-range or luxury travelers. (Mid-range Hotel)
- Villa Thea Collection: On my last trip to Mykonos, we found this hotel that had availability the night of so we weren’t sure what to expect. It turned out to be perfect — we had our own private pool with sea views, the staff were so welcoming and it was a 15 minute walk into Mykonos town. Villa Thea offers accommodation options ranging from 1 – 5 bedrooms so is great for those traveling alone or with a group and for budget or mid-range travelers. We stayed in the 5 bedroom villa and booked through Airbnb — it was perfect for our group! (Mid-range Hotel)
- MyCoCoon Hostel: This hostel is located right in Mykonos Town — perfect for those looking to be centrally located to restaurants and bars as well the bus station. (Budget Hotel)
- Airbnb: Mykonos has quite a few Airbnb listings — especially great for groups, those on a budget or just looking for more privacy or unique lodging options. (New to Airbnb? Get a credit on me!)
WHERE TO DINE
Mykonos has no shortage of dining options. Catering to an international crowd, you can expect a range of options from traditional Greek cuisine to 5-star sushi restaurants.
- Fokos Taverna: This traditional taverna is set beside a quiet beach with views of the Aegean Sea and serves up fresh, delicious Greek classics. While it’s a bit far from many of the more popular beaches, it’s totally worth the trek if you’re looking for a hidden gem experience. Plus it’s only 15 minutes from Alemagou beach club so you could visit both in one day!
- Scorpios: This beach club and restaurant is one of the trendiest spots on the island! While many visit during the day to enjoy the beach, I prefer visiting for sunset drinks and dinner. Scorpios has live music in the evenings so the restaurant is buzzing and their food is incredibly fresh and delicious!
- Kastro’s Restaurant & Bar: If you’re looking for a place to dine in Mykonos Town on the water, the setting at this cute little taverna can’t be beat. With dreamy views of the iconic windmills and fresh seafood, this is one of my favorite spots for lunch.
- Nikolas Taverna: This family owned taverna is situated right on Anna Agia beach and most of the restaurant’s ingredients come from the family’s nearby farm — doesn’t get much fresher than that!
- Cavo Tagoo: The restaurant at this upscale hotel serves incredible sushi and Japanese dishes in a lively, outdoor setting with live music and incredible sunset views. While on the pricier side, the sushi was some of the best I’ve had and made for a special dinner on our last night in Greece!
- Jackie O: I’m pretty sure it’s impossible not to have a good time at Jackie O. Located on Super Paradise beach, this multi-level restaurant and beach club has incredible views, cocktails and food — plus nightly drag shows starring Priscilla!
WHAT TO DO
This island is packed with beautiful beaches and lively beach clubs to match — so you’re guaranteed to have some fun in the sun!
- Hit the Beach: Mykonos is known for its beach clubs so make sure to check out a few different ones. Alemagou is one of my favorite beach clubs — it’s located on Tarsanas beach in Ftelia and is known for its laid back vibe and bohemian aesthetic.
- Explore Mykonos Town (Chora): You can’t come to Mykonos without a stop in Mykonos Town! Wander around this charming white and blue town and be sure to stop at Little Venice on the waterfront as well as the iconic windmills.
- Party the Night Away: Mykonos is known for its party scene! Check out some of the lively beach clubs on Super Paradise beach — or if you’re looking for something more mellow, try Scorpios for their live music at sunset.
- Rent a Boat: One of the best ways to see the island is by sea! Spend the day exploring hidden coves, jumping in the sea and relaxing in the sun. On my last few trips, we have booked a boat through Tranquility Mykonos and loved our experiences!
- Catch the sunset at 180 Sunset Bar: This magical spot is one of my favorites on the island! Grab a drink and watch the sun go down at this hilltop bar. Read more about my experience at 180 Sunset Bar here!
- Day Trip to Delos: If ancient Greek mythology is your thing, you won’t want to miss a trip to Delos island! Just a ferry ride from Mykonos, this archaeological site is said to be the birthplace of Greek gods Apollo and Artemis. Read more about visiting Delos here!
