In photos, Lake Bled looks like the work of Photoshop or from the pages of a fairytale book… but it’s 100% real! This picturesque lake is set about 45 minutes from Slovenia’s capital city, Ljubljana, and makes for a great day trip or overnight. If you’re looking for the best things to do in Lake Bled or wondering where to stay, I’ve compiled a quick guide to visiting Lake Bled.
Read below for the guide to Lake Bled, Slovenia!
WHAT TO DO
- Stroll around the lake: Lake Bled is stunning from every angle! Enjoy those views by walking or biking around the perimeter of the lake (about 4 miles in total).
- Get on a boat: Hop on a Pletna boat (about 10-15 euros) where a guide will row you around the lake and take you to Bled Island. Or rent a row boat and explore for yourself!
- Bled Island: Explore Slovenia’s only island. And make sure to ring the bell in the church on the island — legend says that you’ll be granted one wish while doing so!
- Hike up to look out point: Head up to the Ojstrica lookout point at sunrise or sunset for incredible postcard-like views over Lake Bled. Definitely bring a camera as this is a great photo op — and likely where you’ve seen most photos of Lake Bled taken from!
- Lake Bled Castle: Make sure to explore Slovenia’s oldest castle during your visit to Lake Bled! It’s set on a hilltop next to the lake so also has sweeping lake views.
