Nomade Holbox is one of the best hotels in Isla Holbox! I’m sharing all about my recent stay at this gorgeous new hotel on the island so stay tuned for my complete Nomade Holbox reviews.
Mexico’s Yucatan peninsula is one of my favorite regions in the country and each time I visit, I try to explore at least one new area. From Tulum to Valladolid to Merida, there is so much beauty here… and Isla Holbox had been on my list for a while. So, after a quick stay in Riviera Maya, we were off to check out this magical island for the first time.
Here’s my experience staying at Nomade Holbox!
About Nomade Holbox
Nomade Holbox is the sister hotel to Nomade Tulum and they have many of the same qualities in terms of design, amenities, and a focus on wellness and sustainability.
Far from the sky-high mega-resorts of Cancun, accommodations in Isla Holbox have a much more boutique feel… And Nomade Holbox is no different. The hotel has an eco-chic and trendy vibe with a beautiful, boho and rustic design throughout.
Nestled between the beach and the jungle, there’s an emphasis on disconnecting from everyday life and re-connecting with nature. And with the island’s incredible natural beauty, lush jungles, turquoise waters and abundant wildlife, it’s easy to do that here.
How to Get to Nomade Holbox
To get to Isla Holbox from Riviera Maya, we took a taxi to the small town of Chiquila, which was about a 2-hour drive. From Cancun, the drive time is also about 2 hours or, if you are coming from Tulum, it will be about 2 hours and 40 minutes.

Once we got to Chiquila, we took a small ferry over to Isla Holbox which only took about 25 minutes. When a ferry arrives at the dock in Isla Holbox, a flurry of golf cart taxis await passengers to whisk them away to their hotels.
Nomade Holbox had kindly arranged a golf cart taxi for us and we were on our way to the hotel in no time. The golf cart ride took a little less than 10 minutes and we were delighted to find out hotel was in a secluded end of the island…. time to unwind!
About the Property
Located on the western point of the island, Nomade Holbox is situated on a gorgeous stretch of beach with a prime position for watching the sunset.
It’s small size gives the hotel an intimate feeling like you are staying someone’s private house with a group of friends. The hotel is centered around its idyllic beach club with queen-sized sun-beds and loungers as well as a pool.
During the day, I was almost always chilling in the pool, sipping on a cocktail and enjoying the sea views… what could be better?

The Rooms
There are just 30 rooms and they are made up of Oceanfront Suites, Treehouse Suites or Moon Temple Rooms.
Nomade Holbox is really nestled into the jungle and you can just see the towering Treehouse Suites level with the tree-line of the jungle… it’s a seriously cool design!
We opted to stay in one of the Oceanfront Suites and it really was just steps from the ocean. The room was cozy and well-appointed with a boho cabin feel.
The floors and walls were mostly wood but also draped with canvas fabric so it kind of felt like we were glamping… but with refreshing air-conditioning and lux amenities!
While the room was sealed to keep the A/C in and the bugs out, the bathroom was open-air. While aesthetically beautiful, it was a little tricky keeping the mosquitos at bay while trying to shower and get ready in the bathroom. That’s pretty much the only negative note in my Nomade Holbox reviews though. Other than that, we really enjoyed our room and loved being able to wake up and look at the ocean from bed.
Dining at Nomade Holbox
I wasn’t sure what to expect from the restaurant at Nomade Holbox. Sometimes with new hotels, it can time them some time to find their groove with the menu and kitchen. But that was definitely not the case at Nomade Holbox!
Every meal we had was incredibly delicious. We were blown away by the creativity and flavors in all the dishes we ordered!
The menu heavily features Mexican and Mayan cuisine with some Japanese and Peruvian influences. Many of the vegetables are sourced from their local farm and all of the meat and seafood we tried was excellent quality.
Some of my favorite dishes were the ceviches (there are a number of different ones to try!), the tostadas, and the flank steak tacos. And, to finish, don’t miss the matcha volcano for dessert.
If you know me, you know how much I love all things matcha… and the matcha volcano did not disappoint. I’m drooling just thinking about it!
Activities
Nomade Holbox has a focus on well-being and they have an in-depth wellness program each week that offers sound healing, water therapy, yoga, energy cleansing, cacao ceremonials and more.
They also offer body treatments like deep tissue massages (yes, please!), lymphatic drainage, and reflexology just to name a few.
Wellness activities take place in the Gratitude Tent, on the beach, in your room, or on the rooftop yoga space.
The yoga rooftop was a really cool space and had views overlooking the beach club and sea. I even made an iguana friend up there!
Also, on the certain days of the week, the hotel has live DJ sets which we really enjoyed during our dinner at the restaurant.
Outside of the hotel offerings, Isla Holbox has tons of activities to offer as well. From boat tours to kayaking to swimming with whale sharks, the island is a nature lovers dream.
My Thoughts
Wondering about my honest Nomade Holbox reviews? I absolutely loved this hotel and can’t recommend it enough! From the beautiful beach club to the incredible food at the restaurant, Nomade Holbox really is a special place.
It was so magical watching the sunset from the beach club — especially since you can’t see the sunset behind the sea from most other places in the area (like Cancun or Tulum!).
Another highlight of our stay was the service and staff at the hotel. From check-in to dining to the beach club, everyone we met was so friendly and really wanted to make sure we had the best experience at the hotel.
Overall, Nomade Holbox is a wonderful hotel and the perfect place to disconnect and enjoy the island.
