Croatia’s second-largest city offers tons of history and is known for its charming Old Town and ancient Roman buildings. We spent an exciting day exploring the city and taking in the sights.
Here’s my itinerary for one day in Split, Croatia!
Explore the Old Town
Split’s Old Town is located right on the harbor front and is made up of a maze of charming little streets and cobblestone alleyways. Spend the morning exploring, sipping coffee by the harbor while watching the boats come in, and shopping at the little boutiques in the town.
Lunch at Bokeria
While we were in Split, we noticed the large number of restaurants in the Old Town with menus aimed at tourists but had heard good things about Bokeria so we decided to give it a try. The owners were inspired by the La Boqueira market in Barcelona — it boasts a chic interior and fresh Mediterranean dishes. And… it was delicious!
Tour Diocletian’s Palace
This ancient palace was built for Roman Emperor Diocletian and is one of the best preserved monuments of Roman architecture. It was also featured in Game of Thrones as the former slave city of Meereen and it was the setting for numerous scenes with Daenerys.
So if you’re a Game of Thrones fan, you won’t want to miss a tour of Diocletian’s Palace!
Sunset Drinks at Cornaro Hotel’s Rooftop
To finish off our time in Split, we went to Cornaro Hotel’s rooftop to enjoy a glass of wine with sweeping views of the entire city.
It really was a great way to see the entire Old Town, sea and ships from above!
Dinner at ArtiCok
While we didn’t get a chance to eat dinner in Split, we heard good things about ArtiChok. It’s centrally located and serves up fresh Mediterranean and Croatian dishes with a modern approach.
