While Jackson Hole is widely known as a popular skiing destination, it’s also a great getaway for the summer! With temperatures ranging from the mid 60s to the high 70s, the summer months are a great time to visit — especially since the rest of the country is hot and humid! During my road trip across the USA last summer, I stopped in beautiful Jackson Hole and spent a few days exploring and soaking in the beauty of Wyoming.
Read on for the ultimate guide to visiting Jackson Hole in the summer!
WHAT TO DO
With so much natural beauty, there are tons of outdoor activities and plenty of places to explore.
- Hiking: Grand Teton National Park is one of the most beautiful parks I’ve visited! Hiking through the park will give you stunning views of the Teton mountains as well as lakes and possibly some wildlife. Note that you should always keep a safe distance from wildlife and, while very unlikely that you’ll need to use it, always have bear spray on hand.
- Scenic Drives: drive along the Inner Park Loop Road that runs through Grand Teton National Park for 20 miles giving you a gorgeous view of the mountains. Or check out the 16-mile Kelly Loop and watch for wildlife (especially bison!). Alternatively, the 8-mile Snake River Canyon road is a popular drive for spotting elk and moose.
- Mormon Row Historic District: this group of homes and barns was settled by the Mormons in the 1800s and is now known for its most photographed building, Moulton Barn. I’d suggest going for sunset and watching the sky change colors around the Tetons!
- Schwabacher’s Landing: if I had to pick my favorite place during my visit to Jackson Hole, this might be it! Set along the Snake River, this viewing spot is a great place to see the Tetons as well as watch for wildlife. We saw a baby moose and mother taking a drink from the river — too cute!
- Water Activities: with the Snake River and plenty of nearby lakes, there are tons of water activities — from standup paddleboarding to kayaking to white water rafting.
- Yellowstone National Park: Jackson is just 57 miles from Yellowstone’s South Entrance — if you have some extra time, take a day trip to one of America’s most well-known and beautiful national parks!
WHERE TO DINE
This quaint town has some delicious food ranging from steakhouse to sushi to juice bar.
- Persephone Bakery: this cute bakery and cafe has some of the most delicious baked goods and serves up Intelligentsia coffee.
- Cafe Genevieve: serving up classic comfort food in a cozy setting. Great for brunch or dinner and has a great patio (perfect for those gorgeous summer days!).
- Snake River Grill: oh man, this place was one of the best meals we had on our road trip! Snake River Grill is a fine dining restaurant that has a western steakhouse atmosphere and local fare (think wild game, elk, etc.). Tip: order those onion rings!
- Healthy Being Cafe + Juicery: if you love to start your morning with a fresh juice, this place is for you! Along with their yummy juices and smoothies, they have some healthy and light fare: salads, yogurts, snacks, etc.
- Bin22: this cute wine bar has a great patio and also serves up delicious tapas! Tip: buy a bottle of wine from their store and enjoy with dinner with no corkage fee!
