Here’s my review of the Four Seasons Sayan in Ubud!
About the Four Seasons Sayan
Arriving at the resort, guests are greeted with a grand entrance to the hotel lobby as a bridge suspended over the forest leads to a beautiful circular lobby… And it only gets better from there!
The entire property is breathtaking with fragrant frangipanis, manicured vegetable and herb gardens, serene lily ponds and scenic river views.
And when it comes time to relax, there is no better place than the Four Seasons Sayan. Unwind with a massage at the tranquil spa, take a dip in one of the infinity pools, or just lounge in your villa and enjoy the jungle views.
If you are looking for a luxurious and relaxing escape, the Four Seasons Sayan in Ubud, Bali, Indonesia is the perfect place.
How to Get to the Four Seasons Sayan
The Four Seasons Sayan is located just outside of Ubud on the island of Bali in Indonesia. The easiest way to get to the resort is by car and the journey from the airport will take approximately 1 hour. Guests can either get a taxi at the airport or arrange transport through the hotel.
As we were coming from a ferry arriving in Sanur, we arranged a driver from the hotel to pick us up. We had a very friendly driver who helped us with all our bags after a hectic ferry ride and we had a luxurious and comfortable ride to the hotel. It was a wonderful way to start our Four Seasons Sayan experience!
Another special way to arrive at the hotel is by raft. That’s right… you can check into the hotel by coming down the river on a raft! How cool is that?!
This unique check-in option is available to guests coming from the sister property at Jimbaran Bay. The rafting journey takes about 2 hours and features thrilling views of the jungles and rice terraces.
The Best Time to Visit the Four Seasons Sayan
The best time to visit the Four Seasons Sayan is between the months of April and October. The resort is in its high season during this time, when there are warm, sunny days and the least amount of rain. This is considered Bali’s dry season and temperatures range from the 80s to 90s. Note Bali pretty much has a hot and humid temperature all year long!
November to March is the resort’s low season, as this is Bali’s rainy period. While you may get lower hotel rates and fewer tourists, if you are planning a trip during this time, be sure to pack your raincoat!
How Many Days Will You Need?
Of course, there is no right or wrong answer to this question, as it depends on your personal preference!
If you want to spend most of your time relaxing by the pool or in your villa, then you might only need to stay for a few days. But if you want to explore all that Ubud has to offer and take advantage of the resort’s many amenities, then you might want to add on an extra day or two. In either case, I’d definitely recommend spending at least a couple days at Four Seasons Sayan so that you have enough time to enjoy the resort and Ubud.
I stayed a few nights and was able to really relax at this tranquil property as well as explore the surrounding area… but I’d have loved to stay an extra night or two… or forever!?
Rooms at the Four Seasons Sayan
The suites and villas at the Four Seasons Sayan are beautiful and spacious, many of which are complete with their own private plunge pools and garden bathrooms. Each villa also comes with a dedicated butler, who will take care of your every need during your stay… what could be better?

The spacious suites are located in the main building and the standalone villas feature private pools and terraces. There are several room types to choose from. The one bedroom suites or villas are perfect for a romantic getaway, whereas the two bedroom villas are ideal for families or groups.
One thing I have to mention in this Four Seasons Sayan review is that I stayed in one of the breathtaking Riverfront One Bedroom Villas and couldn’t have been happier. I mean this room was DREAMY! The decor was a mix of traditional Indonesian design with modern touches. Plus, we had a huge soaking tub looking out into the jungle and the bed literally felt like we were sleeping on a cloud. But my favorite part was the outdoor terrace and plunge pool. We spent a lot of time cooling off in the pool, taking in the river views and listening to the exotic sounds of the jungle!
Dining at the Four Seasons Sayan
The Four Seasons Sayan has several dining options for guests: the Ayung Terrace serving traditional Indonesian food and the more casual Riverside restaurant by the pool. There is also Jati Bar, which is a lounge bar with a view and specializes in afternoon tea and cocktails. And, if you are looking for a romantic dining experience, the resort can arrange for you to have a private dinner in your villa or on the river terrace.
After seeing the extensive herb and vegetable gardens on the property, I was expecting the food was going to be fresh and delicious. It did not disappoint!
I really enjoyed the resort’s signature restaurant, Ayung Terrace, for dinner as we were able to try incredible dishes from all over Indonesian (not just Balinese cuisine…although there was plenty of that too!).
My absolute favorite dining experience was the Chef’s Table at Sokasi! In a picturesque riverside pavillion, we were guided through an intimate 7-course dinner by a highly skilled Indonesian chef who taught us all about traditional cooking methods and ingredients. This was truly a culinary journey through the best of Balinese cuisine!
Spa at the Four Seasons Sayan
Imagine a place where your every need is taken care of and you are surrounded by the stunning natural beauty of Bali… well, let me tell you, the Spa at Four Seasons Sayan is that place!
The spa is split into two separate sections: one in the lower level of the main building and one at the Sacred River Spa which looks like a riverside luxury villa. At either location, the spa offers the perfect setting for you to relax and rejuvenate.
The spa menu features a range of treatments inspired by traditional Balinese healing practices, as well as Western-style therapies. Choose from a selection of massages, facials, body scrubs, and wraps. There is also a hair salon, an outdoor Jacuzzi, and a steam room. Plus, the spa also has its own fitness center with a gym and a yoga pavilion.
We had a couples massage in the Sacred River Spa and it did not disappoint. Next time, I’d love to request a massage room that looks out over the lily pond and pool… unfortunately it was booked but it sounded heavenly!
Amenities & Activities at the Four Seasons Sayan
Along with the incredible spa and fitness facilities, the Four Seasons Sayan has a whole host of other amenities to keep you feeling relaxed and comfortable.
Work on your zen at one of the complimentary yoga or meditation classes. Or go exploring on a complimentary village walking tour or a historic temple tour. If you’re interested in gardening or cooking, you can even take a guided tour through the resort’s gardens. And finally, for the more adventurous, go rafting down the Ayung river (Bali’s longest river!) along the resort property.
After a day of exploring, kick back and relax at the infinity pool for riverside views and a sip on a delicious cocktail!
Lastly, if you’re traveling with little ones, the Four Seasons Sayan has you covered. The hotel offers babysitting services and a kids’ club (the Pici Pici club), as well as Balinese dance and art classes.
Excursions in Ubud & the Surrounding Areas
In additional to all of the onsite amenities and activities, the Four Seasons Sayan is ideally positioned to explore Ubud and the beautiful surrounding rice terraces. Ubud is known for having some of the most beautiful landscapes in Bali. It’s also a hub for traditional crafts, artworks and dance.
The Four Seasons Sayan is the perfect base from which to explore all that Ubud has to offer. Take a walk through the rice paddies, visit the many temples and museums, or go on a hike through the surrounding jungle.
We chose to take a tour to the Jatiluwah rice terraces, the Leke Leke waterfall and visit the Pura Taman Ayun temple. It was an amazing day with the perfect mix of natural beauty, adventure and history. Such an unforgettable day!
What to Pack for Ubud
Remember that Bali is hot and humid throughout the year so you’ll want to pack clothes that are light and breathable. Think: sundresses, shorts, tops and swimsuits. If you plan on visiting any of the temples, make sure to dress appropriately and wear a shall that covers your shoulders and a dress that goes below your knees. You’ll also want to pack bug spray and sunscreen!
That’s a wrap on my Four Seasons Sayan review! Have you been to Ubud? Let me know in the comments!
