As the plane descended over the Indian Ocean, I was still unsure what to expect from this Indonesian island that I’d heard so much about.
Little did I know that my first visit to Bali would be nothing short of magical!
After arriving in Denpasar, I went directly to Canggu — a hip but laid-back surf town. As I arrived in Canggu, the first thing I noticed was the endless rice paddies with lush greenery and reflections of the cloudy (but oh so dreamy) sky. Later, I discovered that Canggu also has almost five miles of coastline and is very popular with the surf crowd.
Located next to trendy Seminyak and an easy trip to Tanah Lot, Canggu is perfect for a tropical getaway and is ideally located for exploring more of Bali.
And, while this boho beach town is still up-and-coming, it has tons of delicious smoothie shops, beach bars and villa rentals popping up fast!
The next stop was Ubud. About an hour inland from the beach town of Canggu, Ubud offers lush greenery, relaxing spas, yoga centers and delicious cafes. After getting my fill of smoothie bowls, I explored the Monkey Forest – and got to see these cute little monkeys up close! – as well as the Ubud Art Market where I browsed beautiful, locally made crafts like dream catchers, jewelry, sarongs and purses.
Ubud is also famed for its terraced rice paddies, Hindu temples and rainforest (including stunning waterfalls!).
From the beautiful beaches of Canggu to the lush jungles of Ubud, Bali is the ultimate relaxation getaway!
