After landing in Athens, I hopped in a taxi and began the journey to my hotel at Lycabettus hill. I immediately noticed how large and sprawling the city was and couldn’t wait to explore it.
I soon found out that Athens has tons of different neighborhoods, each with its own unique charm and sights to see.
Strolling through the streets of the Monastiraki neighborhood, I couldn’t help but notice the beautiful juxtaposition of the newer, modern buildings against the ancient ones and historic ruins — generations of architecture right in front of you!
Monastiraki is perfect for an afternoon of shopping with its gorgeous square surrounded by little shops to browse and a flea market to pick up souvenirs too.
One of the biggest highlights from Athens was visiting the Acropolis. It can be seen in the skyline standing high above the rest of the city, but once you climb up to the top and stand below the Parthenon, the size and beauty still takes your breath away!
While it is quite touristy, the Plaka neighborhood is also one of the oldest in Athens and definitely worth exploring. Stop by a cafe for a freddo cappucino on one of its many charming streets and watch the people go by.
On my last day in Athens, I wanted to explore the beach. While located about 30 minutes outside of the city center, Astir Beach Club was worth the trek! Lounging under the sun, swimming in the turquoise bay and sipping on rosé was the perfect ending to my time in Athens!
