Located in Bali’s Karangasem region, Amankila is one of the island’s top luxury resorts. Perched on a hill overlooking the Strait of Lombok, the idyllic resort features 33 suites as well as an incredible infinity pool, a beach club and several restaurants.
After staying at Amankila for a few nights, I totally fell in love with the hotel and this area of Bali. One of the absolute highlights of my stay was the “Satay Evening,” offered as one of the hotel’s special experiences. While some of the other experiences offered — like a private beach dinner or a candlelit dinner by the pool — sounded amazing as well, I was interested in the Satay Evening to experience some authentic Balinese cuisine.
Here’s my review of the “Satay Evening” experience at Amankila!
About the Satay Evening
After our wonderful day exploring East Bali, we were ready for a delicious dinner! At 5:30pm, we were guided up to Tamansari Hill, a private hilltop area on the resort’s property.
At the end of a candlelit walkway, we arrived at the top of the hill and our jaws hit the floor!
There was a picturesque, private bale with breathtaking views on either side: one of the sun setting behind Mount Agung (an active volcano!) and the other of the beautiful Lombok Strait. It was one of the most idyllic dinner locations I’ve ever seen!
As we were shown to the bale, we got to see the chef preparing delicious satay using a traditional cooking style over an outdoor grill. Along with the chef, we had a friendly server who set us up with beverages and guided us through our meal.
Our first course was Soto Ayam, a traditional Indonesian chicken and noodle soup. It was absolutely delicious and a great way to start the meal.
Then, we moved into the satay portion — and, oh my, what a feast! From prawn to fish to beef, there were so many types of satay and we loved all of them… especially with Saos Kacang, their delicious peanut sauce.
After watching the sky turn every shade of pink behind Mount Agung, we got to experience the rest of our dinner only lit by candlelight. It was very romantic!
Dessert was Dadar Gulung, a crepe filled with palm sugar and coconut. It’s a Balinese speciality and one of my absolute favorites!
My Thoughts on Amankila’s Satay Evening
Our Satay Evening at Amankila was an experience I’ll never forgot! From the traditional satay dishes to the unbelievable setting, we were blown away by our dinner.
Amankila is truly an exceptional hotel in every way, and this night was no exception. If you’re planning a trip to East Bali, don’t miss staying at this luxurious resort and made sure to take advantage of their special experiences — like the Satay Evening.
