For many visitors, Athens is a quick stop over on the way to visiting the beautiful beaches of the Greek islands… but did you know that Athens has its own beach club?
Read below for my experience at Astir Beach Club!
– How To Get There –
Escape the hustle and bustle of the city for a day and head to Athens’ very own beach paradise! Astir Beach Club is located in Vouliagmeni on the Laimos peninsula, approximately 12 miles from the center of Athens. The beach club can be reached by uber / taxi, tram to the Glyfada or Voula stations, or by bus (number 114).
– What to Expect –
Since I hadn’t heard anything about the beaches of Athens, I wasn’t sure what to expect when arriving at Astir Beach Club. I was delighted to find that the beach was stunning with clear, turquoise waters surrounded by land on both sides creating a calm lagoon – perfect for floating the day away!
The beach club is beautifully designed with a modern, luxurious feel. The white sun loungers and umbrellas compliment the colorful, striped cabanas against the backdrop of the turquoise sea.
The beach club offers a shop with towels and floats available for purchase, and there is food and drink service on the beach by… TGI Fridays! I was not expecting to find an American chain at this beautiful Greek beach club but was happy to enjoy a glass of rosé and opted for a late lunch at an authentic taverna on our way back into town!
Note that the beach club entry rates vary by season with summer weekends being the highest (28 euro/person).
– Know Before You Go –
- The summer months are a popular time for the beach club so make sure to arrive early (I recommend before 11am!) to have your selection of seats.
- Entry rates vary by season so check the website for current rates during your visit.
- Bring your own towel or purchase one at the shop located near the entrance of the club.
